About me

A smiling young man with short brown hair, glasses, and a plaid shirt standing in front of a red brick wall.

I’m Josh, a qualified counsellor based in York. Counselling for me is about creating a safe trusting space where you feel comfortable to share whatever it is that you want to bring to our sessions. Together, and at your pace, we can unpack and explore the different aspects that make up you and look at the areas that might be causing you difficulty at the moment as well as working out what you would like to do about them. I believe that you have the answers to whatever it is you’re facing, but sometimes we need a bit of help to uncover them.

I have worked with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, family and relationship difficulties, bereavement, trauma, and retirement.

My Approach

My way of working puts you at the front and centre of everything we do while being alongside you throughout and offering a non-judgemental approach. You may not always feel like it, but I believe that you are the expert in you, and through an exploration of self my aim is to assist you in gaining insight and understanding into who you are and how you work. From this, I believe that with greater self-awareness, you can then make an informed decision as to how you want to tackle your problems as well as becoming empowered to be the person you want.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling either in-person or online as I understand that life can sometimes be chaotic and so I aim to be flexible when it comes to counselling. No matter your situation, feel free to get in touch and we will endeavour to work through it together.

Training and Experience

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

In addition to my private practice work, I volunteer as a counsellor at The Belfrey in York and have previously counselled at The Spurriergate Centre.

I am always seeking to improve and develop my skillset and have completed various continuing professional development training in areas such as, but not limited to, domestic abuse, bereavement, working with men, and attachment.
